6 More Tri-County Residents Die From COVID-19, Bringing Death Toll to 631

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Tri-County health officials report six more deaths linked to COVID-19 and 150 additional coronavirus infections in the past day.

A Woodford County man in his 50s is among the latest victims. The others include two from Peoria County, a woman in her 80s and a man in his 70s with underlying health issues. Three Tazewell County residents – a man in his 60s and two women in their 70s, one from a long-term care facility – also succumbed to the disease.

The region's death toll since last March is now at 631, while the case count stands at 41,943. Peoria-area hospitals have 169 patients admitted for COVID-19, down 24 from Monday, and 2,097 residents are isolating at home.

State health officials report 2,587 new illnesses and nine more fatalities. Illinois has logged 1,306,787 coronavirus infections and 21,694 deaths.

The Tri-County area is now up to 228,023 administered doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 100,643 fully vaccinated residents, or 28.6% of the region’s population. That’s about two percentage points better than the state as a whole.

The region added 1,397 shots and 792 more fully dosed individuals in the past day, according to the latest figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Illinois has tallied 8.2 million injections, averaging more than 122,000 shots per day over the past week.
