A 59-year-old man has been identified as the person who died in a Sunday afternoon house fire in Peoria's North Valley.

According to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, Kenneth Carson was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Peoria firefighters found Carson on the floor inside the one-story home in the 600 block of Spitznagle Avenue.

Harwood said Monday that Carson died of smoke inhalation and excessive burns covering his entire body. There was no evidence of any other injuries or trauma, and toxicology tests are pending.

Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 1:30 p.m. and had the fire extinguished within 10 minutes before locating Carson. A dog at the residence was taken into custody by Animal Control.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
