Missing Person Awareness Network

Peoria and East Peoria police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old woman as a homicide.

Mona Ellison was reported missing Wednesday night, said Peoria police spokesperson Amy Dotson.

Authorities said a body was found Thursday morning in a wooded area behind a residential complex in the 100 block of Woodrow Drive in East Peoria.

Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley identified the body as Ellison’s.

Ellison was reported missing from the 3500 block of NE Brevis in Peoria on Wednesday evening. She hadn't been seen in several days.

Foul play is suspected. The cause of death will be determined following an autopsy on Friday.
