If you’re tired of this heat, be patient. Central Illinois’ heat wave isn’t going anywhere in the next few days, but relief is coming by the end of this weekend.
“We got a big ridge of high pressure that’s basically acting as a pressure cooker that’s going to be on top of us today into this weekend, said Ben Deubelbeiss, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Lincoln.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s throughout the weekend. Heat indexes will vary from 105 to 115 degrees through Sunday, when a cold front is expected to return us back to more normal temperatures in the 80s.
“Sunday, we’re expecting a cold front to come through the area. That’s gonna bring us a little bit of relief from the heat. So Sunday, depending on where you are and what time the front comes through should be our last day of hot conditions here," said Deubelbeiss.
Health officials urge drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing and checking on neighbors, parents and friends.
