Creative Commons

A Peoria woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision near Edelstein.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 28-year-old Kathleen Schroeder died early Sunday morning.

Schroeder and her husband were two of the three people injured Saturday afternoon when a car and a semi-tractor trailer collided at the Illinois Route 40 and Truitt Road intersection.

Schroeder was extricated from her vehicle before being taken by helicopter to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. The coroner reports she died of blunt force trauma.

Her husband was also transported to the hospital. Their dog was also in the SUV and required emergency veterinary care and has since not survived injuries sustained in the accident.

The identities and condition of the remaining injured person are unknown. The Peoria County Sheriff’s office is investigating the accident.
