Quest Charter, Eureka College Collaborate to Bring Up Next Generation of Teachers

Peoria Public Radio

Quest Charter Academy and Eureka College have a new partnership that formalizes a full-circle opportunity for students entering the field of education.

Jamel Wright, Interim President of Eureka College, says the expanded partnership is a byproduct of the late Glen Barton and the Barton Scholars Program.

“He had the vision and the wherewithal to establish the Barton fund which produced many students coming through Eureka College working with Quest and again coming back to Quest," Wright said.

The memorandum of understanding signed Wed. starts next school year.

The late Glen Barton retired as the CEO of Caterpillar. He served on Eureka College Board of Trustees and was also the first Quest Charter School Board President.

“I can envision now a time where we have our own students who are interested in the field of education, going to Eureka, becoming a Barton Scholar, gaining those everyday experiences at Quest and then coming back to teach with us,” Nicole Wood, Executive Director of Quest, said.

Wood says the initiative has already resulted in three Eureka Barton Scholar Alums returning to teach at Quest Charter Academy.
