Peoria school board approves plans to convert former Quest buildings to new uses

Plans to re-house alternative programs and two-way dual language programs in the former Quest Charter Academy buildings are moving forward.

The Peoria Public Schools board of education approved the uses Monday. The former Quest High School, 2503 N. University, will be utilized for alternative programs that are running out of space at their current locations.

That includes the Trewyn Middle School-based RISE Academy focusing that helps K-4 students cope with trauma, as well as Trewyn's day treatment program and Jamieson School's post-secondary Peoria Adult Transition Academy for 18-to-22 year olds with IEPs.

The old Quest Middle School, 2612 N. Bootz Ave., will gather the district's two-way dual language programs in a central location.

School board president Paris McConnell told a resident asking about the associated costs that there will be a process in place for figuring that all out.

"The item on the agenda is not about the costs at the moment," she said. "It's just simply re-purposing that. It's a purpose. We will work that out and we will be transparent."

McConnell said the district won't be writing a "blank check" for the schools.

"We will exercise due diligence, common sense, cost effectiveness," she said. "Because that is the accountability of the board and the team. So it is not wasteful."

Superintendent Sharon Kherat previously told WCBU she expects the former schools to be rebooted by the 2025-2026 school year.
