Peoria Public Schools District 150 has a plan for the two buildings that belonged to Quest Charter Academy.
District 150 Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat said under the proposed plan, the former Quest Charter Academy High School, 2503 N. University Ave., would become an alternative high school for students struggling with academics or mental health. The middle school, 2612 N. Bootz Ave., would become a biliteracy program.
“So you'll have half students who are half Spanish speaking and then have English,” Kherat said. “And then they would work together.”
The two buildings transferred back to the district when the Illinois State Board of Education upheld a PPS school board decision to end the charter. The decision was made after Quest failed to meet success metrics established during the previous renewal process.
Kherat told WCBU in August that the district was discussing what to do with the two buildings, but was focusing on integrating Quest students into their new schools first.
The biliteracy program would be for pre-K to fourth graders. The current biliteracy program runs out of Whittier Primary School and the Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center.
The District 150 Board of Education will hear a presentation on the plan during Monday’s meeting. If the board approves the plan, Kherat says the district plans to have the buildings ready for the upcoming 2025-26 school year.
