A month has passed since food truck owners could apply to operate in Peoria’s public right-of-way. But no mobile food vendor has yet filled out the paperwork. Assistant City Manager Chris Setti says there are possible reasons why food truck operators haven’t applied:
“It may be one of those cases where, folks are going to wait until next year. Even though food trucks aren’t as seasonal as a food cart, they still are somewhat seasonal.”
Setti says the license fee to operate a food truck in the downtown is $1,700 for the remainder of the year for operators without a brick-and-mortar building. He says the fee for food truck operators will double after that time period. The application status follows a significant push by community groups to allow food truck vendors to operate in the public right-of-way.
