Greater Peoria LISC and Hope Builders of the South Side Mission are helping low-income homeowners repair their old or damaged roofs. LISC put a $15,000 grant toward the program that helps residents in the 61605 zip code. Harold Booze is a board member for the South Side Mission. He says recent heavy rainfall underscores the need for the repair:
“They’re actually leaking into the house, you’ve seen pictures of people putting buckets down to catch water and those kind of things, I mean that’s the situation you have.”
Booze says the grant pays for roof repairs at three South Side homes. Workers are finishing the last project for a disabled veteran living on West Wiswall.
