Concerns voiced for potential Dunlap public housing site study

Some of the hundreds of Dunlap residents at a public meeting Tuesday night expressed concerns for a public housing redevelopment study.
More than 600 people showed up during a public meeting about the Peoria Housing Authority’s draft plan for development. The Framework Strategy is intended to provide direction on future redevelopment projects, including replacing Taft Homes. Dunlap resident Shelly Crespo says the study and public input lacks transparency:

“We feel blindsided with these quick deadlines that we’ve been given without the real opportunity to speak, and you can see the kind of interest that’s here tonight.”

Other residents say a public housing development in Dunlap could result in higher crime and lower property values. PHA officials say they pushed for public involvement during the study. A link to the PHA’s public comment section is available by clicking here.
