Out and About in Greater Peoria: River City Soul and Gospel Fest, live music and bratfest

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Aug. 2- Aug. 4, 2023, curated by WCBU's Camryn Cutinello. You can find more coverage on our Out & About - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WCBU's Weekend Fanfare email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Listen: The River City Soul and Gospel Fest is back in Peoria for its 25th year this weekend. The lineup includes nationally acclaimed artists as well as local bands. Food vendors will offer soul food and modern treats. Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Peoria Riverfront. Guests can buy tickets for one show or purchase a two-day pass.

Listen: Break out your Hawaiian shirts Saturday for a concert at Mackinaw Valley Vineyard. Still Shine will play their first concert of 2024 at the vineyard, mixing acoustic roots with progressive bluegrass. Admission is $5. Guests can bring a lawn chair or call ahead to reserve deck seating. You can bring your own food but outside beverages will not be allowed. The vineyard will have drinks and assorted snacks for sale. The concert goes from 7 to 11 p.m.

Eat: Bratfest comes to Hickory Grove Park in Dunlap on Sunday. The event begins at noon, with live entertainment beginning at 1 p.m. The fest features live music, a German stein holding competition and a car show. There will be plenty of food options for guests, with dinners being served until 6 p.m. Admission to the fest is free.
