Duck Race ducks on sale

The Center for Prevention of Abuse is hoping to sell 30-thousand ducks this year for its 26th annual Duck Race. The organization sold 25-thousand ducks last year. The money raised helps support various abuse prevention programs and provide services for victims of abuse.

Martha Herm is the Executive Director of the center. She says the Duck Race is also important to remind area residents what the center offers.

“We’ve had some horrible, horrible tragedies the last couple of years. In fact, 1/4th of the people who died by gunshots last year were domestic violence victims. We’ve just seen a couple terrible tragedies this year. We want to prevent all that from ever happening, so if we can get people here sooner, that’d be great.”

The Duck Race is Saturday, August 23rd. Ducks can be purchased at various businesses like Schuck’s, Hy-Vee, and Associated Bank. They can also be bought online by clicking here. The grand prize for the event is five-thousand dollars.
