Jump Trading Simulation Center to pump millions into local economy

The new Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center is expected to inject more than 90-million dollars into the tri-county area economy over the next five years. That’s according to an economic analysis performed by the Center for Business and Economic Research at Bradley University. 60-million dollars of the economic impact comes from construction of the facility while more than 30 million is a result of ongoing operations.

The center is a partnership between OSF Healthcare and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. Its mission is to improve health care through virtual training of medical staff and research. Bradley Associate Professor of Economics, Dr. Joshua Lewer, is one of the authors of the economic impact study. He says the biggest impact of the Jump Trading center will come from hard-to-measure qualitative benefits.

“…such as better trained educators that come out of UICOMP that already are prepared to deal with critical events, rare events. It’s going to be working in teams. It’s going to be trying to improve how our health care is delivered to have better outcomes.”

The Chief Medical Officer of the center says the facility has already started studies to reduce complications in health care. The center is also partnering with various local companies to develop new technology like smartphone apps and education modules for training.
