Outside the Horseshoe - September 24, 2013

Recent gun violence in the city of Peoria has many voicing concern if not a little on edge. A double homicide last week that included the death of KieAmber Beard-who was pregnant-was accompanied by several gunshot wounds including a pizza delivery guy. And Beard’s cousin was shot to death in the front yard of her mother’s house during a family gathering in her honor. Police have made at least two arrests but are also targeting more patrols in the generally areas impacted by the violence. Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard and Captain Mike Eddleman met with reporters yesterday to talk through some of the response efforts. We are using the press interview for this Outside The Horseshoe.

The show aired on 89.9 WCBU, Peoria Public Radio at 6:00p.m., Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 before the live broadcast of the Peoria City Council meeting.  Chief Settingsgaard started the interview defining the circumstances of the recent violence.

Those in press meeting included WEEK/HOI reporter videographer team: Alyssa Donovan and Doug Smith, WMBD TV reporter and videographer, Alexandra Sutter and Scott Probst, Peoria Journal Star reporter Matt Buedel and 1470 WMBD’s Ed Hammond.
