An 18-year-old man found guilty in a fatal shooting on Peoria’s South Side last June has been sentenced to a total of 90 years in prison.
Lamar Cagle was convicted in October of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the death of 20-year-old Teron Scott Jr. and the wounding of another man.
Peoria County Judge Paul Bauer on Friday sentenced Cagle to 65 years for the murder and 25 years for the battery, with the sentences to run concurrently.
Prosecutors sought 95 years of incarceration, presenting testimony that Cagle is a member of a dangerous street gang.
The shooting occurred in the 300 block of S. MacArthur Highway shortly before 3 a.m. on June 20. Peoria police responding to the scene found Scott in the back seat of a vehicle that crashed into a tree in Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
Scott had suffered a gunshot wound to his head and died at the scene. A second shooting victim was taken to a local hospital with non-fatal injuries.
Christopher Adams and Kamereon Bell also have been charged in connection with the murder. Their cases remain pending.
