The Bradley University athletics department will take over management of revenue sharing support and fundraising for its basketball teams, the university announced on Wednesday.
The decision means the collectives Home of the Brave and Be Brave will no longer serve as the direct source of name-image-likeness [NIL] funding for the men’s and women’s basketball players.
The change comes about a month after Bradley named Tom Hammerton as the general manager for the Braves basketball teams. Hammerton previously served as president of the OSF HealthCare Foundation.
In a news release, Bradley said the new funding structure “provides a more direct and coordinated way for supporters of Bradley men’s and women’s basketball to compete at the highest level.”
Basketball-specific gifts now will be made directly to Bradley Athletics to support “program priorities” such as travel, recruiting, scheduling operations, and athlete support.
The news release indicates the donations will be tax-deductible, which was not the case with the collectives.
“The landscape of college athletics has changed, but Bradley's commitment to competing for championships and providing a first-class student-athlete experience remains the same,” the statement read.
