Illinois State Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 74 early Thursday that killed one person and injured three others.

A preliminary media release says the two-vehicle collision happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Morton exit. One vehicle was seen overturned in the median.

One of the occupants was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s identity and official cause of death have not yet been released by the coroner's office.

Three others were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

All eastbound lanes and one westbound lane were shut down for nearly four hours.
