A shuttered student housing complex at Illinois Central College’s East Peoria campus is on track to reopen in August.
The college made the announcement Wednesday, noting the ICC Educational Foundation recently completed its sale of the WoodView Commons Apartments to a local investment group.
The complex, which can accommodate up to 320 students, was closed last year due to cash flow issues and mounting repair needs.
“On-campus housing strengthens the overall college experience,” ICC Interim President Bruce Budde said in a media release. “We are pleased to partner with an organization that shares our commitment to students and to this community.
“Students who live on campus are often more engaged and more successful, and we look forward to once again offering that opportunity at ICC."
Longtime Peoria-area real estate investors Brad Joseph, Bill Joseph and Chad Joos lead the new ownership group. The property will be managed professionally by Young America Realty.
The owners will undertake rehabilitation of the 20-year-old apartment building to have it ready to open for the next academic year. Planned upgrades include new appliances, refreshed furnishings, updated carpet, fresh paint and other improvements focused on a more welcoming environment for students.
The sale comes after a months-long evaluation process by the foundation to establish a partnership that would offer the strongest long-term fit for ICC students and the college community.
