The closure will also shut down the MacArthur intersections with Adrian G. Hinton Ave., Aiken Ave., Smith Street and Johnson Street. The suggested detour for through traffic recommends using Richard Pryor Place and Jefferson Ave.

A portion of MacArthur Highway in Peoria will be shut down for the summer later this week, as part of a $10 million reconstruction project.

The southbound lane between John Gwynn Jr. Ave. and Brotherson Street will be closed to all traffic beginning Wednesday. The northbound side of the road will remain open, but drivers are urged to stay alert and aware of the new configuration.

The closure will also shut down the MacArthur intersections with Adrian G. Hinton Ave., Aiken Ave., Smith Street and Johnson Street. The suggested detour for through traffic recommends using Richard Pryor Place and Jefferson Ave.

The work is part of the larger rehabilitation of MacArthur Highway from the bridge south of Moss Ave. to Howett Street.

The realignment will turn the street into a three-lane roadway with a center turn lane, and add a multi-use path on the east side.
