Peoria Police have arrested a teenage male on murder and other charges in connection with a fatal shooting inside a vehicle in October.
The Peoria County State's Attorney's Office on Friday charged the teen, who was 17 at the time of the shooting but has since turned 18, as an adult on counts of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.
A hearing on the prosecutors' petition to detain the teen until his trial is scheduled for Monday. WCBU is withholding the name of the alleged shooter since he was a minor at the time of the incident.
Police said detectives spotted the suspect Thursday in the 600 block of E. Maywood Ave. He was captured and taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
The teen is charged in the fatal shooting of Elisha Gilbert, 20, of Peoria on Oct. 26, and the shooting of an 18-year-old female passenger, who suffered non-life threatening injuries. The incident happened at the intersection of Isabell and Merle where the vehicle had crashed.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said at the time Gilbert suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died instantly.
