Year-to-date figures released Tuesday by the Peoria Police Department show the city with 13 total homicides through the end of November.

The City of Peoria is on track to have its fewest number of homicides in a year since the end of COVID-related lockdowns.

Year-to-date figures released Tuesday by the Peoria Police Department show the city with 13 total homicides through the end of November, with eight of the murders as a result of gunshots.

That’s down from 20 total homicides over the first 11 months of 2024, keeping Peoria on pace to see a reduction in murders for a fourth straight year.

Peoria ended the COVID year of 2020 with just 14 homicides, but the number spiked to 33 the following year.

So far this year, the numbers of total gunshot victims and overall shooting incidents are both down slightly less than 20% from a year ago, with shooting murders reduced by more than half.
