Another wave of snow is headed through Greater Peoria after the region received it’s first accumulation of the season over the weekend.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has a winter weather advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday for several central Illinois counties, including Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford.

Accumulation of between 2 to 5 inches is possible with snowfall starting in the afternoon and continuing primarily until around 10 p.m. Lighter snow may continue overnight.

Roads are likely to be snow-covered and slippery, so caution is advised for the evening commutes.

This comes after Saturday’s all-day storm covered the area with snowfall totals ranging from around 4 inches in El Paso to almost 8 inches in Washington, according to NWS reports. Peoria International Airport reported 5.2 inches of accumulation.

With the additional expected snowfall, several area communities have reissued parking bans, including Washington and East Peoria.

The Peoria Public Works Department will keep snow removal crews on around-the-clock, 12-hour shifts as they continue to clear city roadways. The focus shifts back to treating and plowing main roadways as the snow falls, with residential plowing set to resume after arterial routes are cleared and the snow has stopped.
