2 men charged in connection with teen’s fatal shooting

Yellow police tape stretches across a blurry crime scene. It says "Police Line Do Not Cross." The text "WCBU Police and Fire" lays on top of that photo.

The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed charges against two men allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy Wednesday in the West Bluff neighborhood.

Curtis Jones, 18, is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death. Jafari Robinson, 27, is charged with concealment of a homicidal death.

Prosecutors said Peoria police discovered the body of Keyaun Hardimon wrapped in a rolled-up carpet inside a home in the 2400 block of North Sheridan Road after responding to a report of shots fired at the residence.

When officers arrived at the house, Jones initially refused to let them inside, but another resident let them in to check for possible victims.

As they searched the residence, police found Robinson hiding in a bathroom. He had a spent shell casing in his pocket.

In the basement, officers found a large amount of blood, more shell casings and bullet strikes on a piece of furniture, and the rolled carpet containing Hardimon’s body.

Prosecutors said Hardimon was shot twice. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood pronounced him dead at the scene.

Witnesses indicated Jones and others were in the basement with Hardimon when the shots were fired, police said. Robinson told officers he did not know about the shooting, but admitted helping to clean up blood in the basement.

The state’s attorney’s office said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
