One person killed in multi-vehicle crash in Pekin

A Tazewell County resident has died following an early morning multi-vehicle collision on Pekin’s south side.

The crash occurred at the intersection Veterans Drive and S. 14th Street shortly before 8 a.m., according to a social media post by the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Charles Hanley around 9:30 a.m. The person’s identity has not yet been released, awaiting proper notifications.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The case is under investigation by the coroner’s office and Illinois State Police.

No information was provided regarding the total number of vehicles involved, the cause of the crash, or the status of other individuals.

Additional agencies responding to the incident included the Pekin Police Department, Pekin Fire Department, Advanced Medical Transport, and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
