Second death confirmed in multi-vehicle crash in Pekin

The Peoria County Coroner's Office has identified one of the victims as a 45-year-old woman who died at a Peoria hospital on Sunday.

A 16-year-old girl from Marquette Heights has died after an early Saturday morning multi-vehicle collision on Pekin’s south side that left another person dead.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Veterans Drive and South 14th Street shortly before 8 a.m., according to a social media post by the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Charles Hanley around 9:30 a.m. Hanley issued a statement on social media on Sunday identifying the victim as Charlotte Bumbalough.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed a second person, a 45-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at 2:29 p.m. Sunday at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

No information was provided regarding the total number of vehicles involved, or the cause of the crash.

The case is under investigation by the coroner’s office and Illinois State Police.

Additional agencies responding to the incident included the Pekin Police Department, Pekin Fire Department, Advanced Medical Transport, and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
