Coroner ID's man found dead in vehicle in weekend crash near Glasford

The driver of a car found in a ditch Saturday in rural Peoria County was pronounced dead at the scene.

Illinois State Police say troopers responded to a “reported medical emergency” on U.S. Route 24 west of Glasford Road shortly before 8 p.m.They found the vehicle in the ditch with the driver deceased.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood on Tuesday identified the victim as Jeremy Englert, 54, of Pekin.

In a social media post, Harwood said Englert suffered an “unfortunate and immediate cardiac event” with no signs of trauma, and on-site resuscitative efforts were unsuccessful.

The coroner said toxicology tests required under state statute are pending, but there was no evidence of drug or alcohol use.

State police closed the eastbound lanes of the highway for about three hours. No other information is currently available.
