A Peoria woman has been sentenced to more than three decades in prison after pleading guilty to the 2023 murder of her boyfriend.
Judge Katherine Gorman issued a 31-year term for Tnashia Wash, 20, during a sentencing hearing Thursday, according to a news release from the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office.
In June, Wash entered a guilty plea to first-degree murder in the death of Roderick Richardson, 30, in October 2023. The plea agreement placed a cap of 35 years on her prison sentence.
Richardson died inside his West Bluff home after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Wash admitted to the killing, but initially claimed it was in self-defense. She said Richardson pointed a gun at her and her child during an altercation.
Evidence showed that Richardson’s injuries were inconsistent with Wash’s claim, with four the six shots striking him in his back.
In issuing her sentence, Gorman noted that Wash had no prior criminal history, but the loss of life required a significant consequence.
Because of her age at the time of the offense, Wash may be eligible for parole after 20 years.
