The Pekin Police Department shut down the area near the intersection of Court Street and Parkway Drive for several hours Tuesday following the discovery of two objects that appeared to be explosive devices.

According to a media release, a concerned citizen notified police of the objects. Officers responded immediately and secured the area around the 2000 block of Court Street.

The objects were photographed by investigators from a safe distance. Those photos were forwarded to the Peoria Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal [EOD] team for evaluation.

On a recommendation from the EOD team, nearby roads and businesses were closed temporarily in an abundance of caution as members reported to the scene.

Pekin police say the EOD team collected the items for further analysis and deemed the area safe to reopen the roads and businesses.

The incident remains under investigation.
