The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect in custody following the shooting death of two people early Thursday morning in Pekin.

In a press release, Sheriff Jeff Lower said 21-year-old Memphis S. Rue was taken into custody at the scene on Illinois Route 29 around 4:45 a.m. Thursday. According to Lower, deputies arriving at the scene found two people dead.

Lower said Rue has been arrested on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of the two individuals. The case will be moved to the Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office for a formal charge and prosecution, after the sheriff’s office completes its investigation.

The identity of the victims will be released at a later time by the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office, after officials have an opportunity to notify their next of kin.

Lower said the case continues to be investigated by the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and the coroner’s office.
