The Tazewell County Coroner has identified two Pekin men killed in a shooting early Thursday morning.

Coroner Charles Hanley said Chase Rhodes and Dawson Reese, both 21, were found deceased by Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to a shooting shortly before 5 a.m. in the 11000 block of Route 29 in South Pekin.

Autopsies for both men are scheduled for Friday.

Tazewell County Sheriff Jeff Lower said a suspect, 21-year old Memphis S. Rue, was taken into custody at the scene in connection with the deaths. Lower said a formal charge of first-degree murder is pending, and the case will be passed to the county state’s attorney after the investigation concludes.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office in the investigation.
