The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a woman whose body was found Monday in the Illinois River.

Sheriff Chris Watkins says his office responded to a call around 2:30 p.m. after an employee at the Mosaic Company’s facility in the 8700 block of Cargill Road south of Bartonville discovered the deceased woman in the river.

Crews from the Timber Hollis and Pekin fire departments joined the response, along with the Illinois State Conservation police and the Peoria County Coroner. The adult woman’s body was removed from the river via boat by Pekin firefighters.

The sheriff’s office is working with the coroner to identify the victim. They say it appears the woman is black and may have been in the water for at least 24 hours.

Anyone with information that may help identify the woman or other details about how she entered the river is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 309-657-5532, or anonymously through CrimeStoppers or the department’s Sheriff’s App.
