A 45-year-old Peoria man has been formally charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend Sunday in north Peoria.
According to a news release from the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, Derreck S. Hall was charged with first-degree murder Wednesday for allegedly killing Latrista L. Warfield, 37. The state’s petition for pre-trial detention was granted.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. Sunday at The Grove Apartment Complex in the 1400 block of W. Candelight Court. Peoria Police Department officers responded to the scene and found Warfield lying in a pool of blood in the hallway in front of one of the apartments.
Warfield had been shot six times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Hall turned himself in later Sunday night and told police he had the gun that was used “in the thing.” Test shots fired from Hall’s gun matched shell casings found at the scene, according to prosecutors.
Hall was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and being a repeat felony offender. He remains in custody at the Peoria County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
