A 69-year-old Glasford resident died Thursday in a fiery three-vehicle collision in rural Peoria County.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the man as Allan Young. In a social media post Friday, Harwood said Young died at the scene.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, four other people were injured in the incident. A 65-year-old man and 13-year-old boy were taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center with serious injuries, while a 76-year-old man and 73-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office reported the crash happened at 5:15 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Hanna City Glasford Road and Lancaster Road.

Deputies on the scene found a Ford van had rolled over multiple times and caught fire. Harwood said Young was the driver of the van; witnesses said he was unconscious and unresponsive when they tried to pull him from the engulfed vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said a preliminary investigation shows Young’s van was traveling south on Hanna City Glasford Road and struck a BMW from behind multiple times. The van then attempted to pass the BMW and struck a northbound SUV head-on.

It is unknown if the driver’s actions were intentional or medically related. Harwood’s statement said an autopsy on Young showed he suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries, and he did not have any evidence of soot or burns in his airway. Lab tests confirmed he was not alive during the vehicle fire.

Autopsy results are pending and the incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s and coroner’s offices.
