The National Weather Service has wrapped up its assessment of the July 15 derecho, with a total of 10 tornadoes recorded around Central Illinois that evening.
The tornadoes were concentrated in Tazewell, Peoria, Woodford, Knox, and Livingston counties.
Each of those tornadoes reached somewhere between EF-0 to EF-1 on the enhanced Fujita scale that's used to measure tornado strength. Nobody was injured, but thousands of people lost power following the storm. Tree and building damage also was reported.
Several tornadoes also were recorded in Marshall County on July 14.
A derecho is "a widespread, long-lived wind storm that is associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms," according to the National Weather Service.
The same July 15 derecho produced a record 32 tornadoes in northern Illinois.
