Out and About in Greater Peoria: Plant sale, live music and Maifest

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of May 3 through May 5, 2024, curated by WCBU's Meagan Ruger-Smith. You can find more coverage on our Out & About - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WCBU's Weekend Fanfare email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Shop: This weekend at Luthy Botanical Gardens, shop a plant sale for a good cause. Find perennials, ground covers, succulents, garden decorations, Mother's Day gifts and more at this sale. All proceeds support Whitney's Walk for Suicide Prevention and Awareness.

Listen: Saturday at the Chillicothe Public Library, enjoy music from an artist who self-describes as “One part Joni, one part Tweedy with a sprig of rock and roll." Beth Bombara will be playing at the library from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This singer-songwriter specializes in acoustic indie rock, folk and blues. Admission is free.

Celebrate: The Peoria German-American Society’s annual Maifest is this Sunday. Starting at noon, celebrate the arrival of spring with German food and drinks. Admission is free and a plated dinner is $13. There will be accordion music and vendors selling German merchandise.

Meagan Ruger-Smith is a sports communication major at Bradley University, with minors in ethics and journalism. Meagan joined WCBU in 2023.
