Out & About in Greater Peoria: Four things to do during the holidays

Here are 4 things to do for the weekend of Dec. 22 through Dec. 31, 2023, curated by WCBU's Meagan Ruger-Smith. You can find more coverage on our Out & About - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WCBU's Weekend Fanfare email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Enjoy some live blues: Tonight, Travel the road to nostalgia with Joe Metzka & Friends at the Contemporary Art Center. The set list includes some influence from jazz and R&B, but blues are the heart of the show. Tickets at the door are $12 for members and $16 for non-members.

Pay tribute to one of the greats: On Dec. 29, Peoria Players Theatre is hosting a tribute concert to Tony Bennett. Directed by Bryan Blanks, "The Best is Yet to Come, A Tribute to Tony Bennett and Friends" features several favorite Tony Bennett tunes and collaborations performed by some of this area's best talents.

Enjoy a laugh: Also on Dec. 29, DeRay Davis performs "The Last Laugh Comedy Show" at the Peoria Civic Center. Born and raised in Chicago, DeRay has turned his rough upbringing, streetwise mentality and status as a working actor into a live tour that says fresh and ever changing according to whatever is happening in his daily life.

Play some games until the new year: On New Year’s Eve, Retro Replay Arcade is hosting its grand opening. They’ll have promotions and games running until 2024. The event starts at 5 p.m. at the Landmark Recreation Center.
