A Peoria man is dead and an 18-year-old woman is in custody after a shooting Monday morning on the city’s West Bluff.

Peoria police say the incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. at a residence in the 1200 block of North Ellis Street, near the intersection with Columbia Terrace.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said 30-year-old Roderick Richardson suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:27 a.m.

Police said they arrested TNashia Wash on a charge of first-degree murder. She is in custody at the Peoria County Jail.

According to police, initial information from the scene suggests the shooting occurred during the course of an altercation.

Harwood said an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday and the case remains under investigation.

Richardson’s death is Peoria’s 22nd homicide of the year. The city recorded 24 homicides in 2022 and 34 in 2021.
