Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the deaths of a man and a woman found in a Central Peoria home Thursday afternoon are being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide.

Harwood said 23-year-old Daniya Washington and 20-year-old Damarious Matthews were pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 1 p.m. in the 500 block of West Lawndale Avenue.

Autopsies conducted Friday indicate both suffered gunshot wounds and likely died instantly.

Harwood said Washington's death is being investigated as a homicide, making it the city's 13th of 2022. The coroner said it appears Matthews took his own life.

The Peoria Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
