Peoria County ranks sixth in Illinois for percentage of residents fully vaccinated for COVID-19, while Tazewell County also is among the state’s top 10.

However, four Peoria County residents, including a man in his 30s, succumbed to the disease in the past day, according to Wednesday’s update from Tri-County health officials.

The region logged 48 new coronavirus infections since Tuesday in addition to the four fatalities. The other recent victims were a woman in her 60s and two men: one in his 50s and one in his 70s. The area’s death toll since the start of the pandemic is up to 718, while the case count stands at 45,163.

The Tri-County area as a whole is at 37.5%, with Woodford County just below 36.0%. The region added 1,187 fully-dosed residents in the past day, along with 2,274 total injections. The three counties have combined for 272,528 shots overall and has averaged 1,331 daily doses over the past week.

Illinois is up to 10.5 million shots administered and 4.9 million fully vaccinated residents, or 38.4% of the population.

IDPH reported more 1,633 new cases and 28 deaths across Illinois since Tuesday. The statewide figures since last March are up to 1.37 million illnesses and 22,494 fatalities.
