An overnight explosion led to the total loss of a Western Avenue restaurant early Saturday morning.

The Peoria Fire Department says crews arrived at the Sharkey’s location at 913 S. Western around 12:30 a.m. and found the building engulfed in flames. The restaurant was closed.

While the blaze was brought under control in less than 30 minutes, firefighters remained on the scene for 2½ hours to extinguish hot spots. No one was injured.

Initial investigation determined a large explosion occurred inside the building. The cause of the blast remains under investigation.
