Washington Community High School

History was made Wednesday night at Washington Community High School. Assistant superintendent Karen Beverlin was hired by the District 308 School Board to be the district's next superintendent. She'll replace the retiring Kyle Freeman on July 1, 2027.

Replacing the water main under Bondurant Street that's broken six times in 10 years is on Washington's list of proposed projects. Bondurant is adjacent to Washington Community High School.

Washington Community High School is bringing its bus transportation service for special education students in-house. Superintendent Kyle Freeman said the switch is a money-saver for the high school.

Enrollment is beginning to fall at Washington Community High School after years of increases. Sixth-day enrollment figures showed there were 1,360 students at the school, a drop of 44 from last year.

Cell phones can now be used by students only for instruction and only with the teacher's permission during class periods at Washington Community High School.
