Riverview Plaza Building

The Riverview Plaza tower in Downtown Peoria has been shuttered for more than two years, as the city pushes the building owner to fix the fire suppression, sprinkler and electrical systems. City Manager Patrick Urich said Peoria is doing everything within its power to see the building brought into code compliance.

Three companies have submitted redevelopment proposals to the City of Peoria for turning the Tower on Adams property into a mixed-use commercial and residential property. Meanwhile, the city also has entered into an agreement with the owners of the Riverview Plaza as a step toward getting the closed high-rise repaired.

Peoria City leaders continue to explore possible opportunities to restore vibrancy to the downtown area. In a recent interview with WCBU, City Manager Patrick Urich discusses how Peoria is eager to find ways to bring more people to the Central Business District.

Chase Bank closed its branch there on Sept. 4 due to health and safety reasons, and it will not reopen, according to a spokesman.

Under the settlement, payments of fines and fees will be delayed by six months. MJ Illinois is also required to pay the city $10,151.25 before Oct. 1 for an inspection the city had done after the building was originally closed.

It's been more than two months since the Peoria Fire Department closed the Riverview Plaza high-rise downtown. Many tenants have since moved out of the building, and city officials still aren't sure when repairs might get done.
