The Chase Bank Building in Peoria will remain closed while assessments are conducted on the fire suppression system.

The one remaining functional business in the 20-story Riverview Plaza office building in downtown Peoria is calling it quits.

Chase Bank closed its branch there on Sept. 4 due to health and safety reasons, and it will not reopen, according to a spokesman.

The Peoria Fire Department shut down the building back in February after a water leak damaged its fire suppression system. Ongoing fire safety code violations have kept the building closed down since then.

The city brokered a deal with owner MJ Illinois to get the building reopened, but there's no timeline for that to happen.

Most tenants have moved out, but the first floor bank was allowed to stay open.

The Chase spokesman said the location at 7707 N. Knoxville Ave. will remain open for Peoria customers. The bank also has an app.
