Peoria’s multi-year project to convert two major downtown streets back to two-way traffic is close to finishing its first construction season.

The $19 million project will convert Adams and Jefferson streets from one-way traffic to one lane of traffic in both directions, with a bidirectional center turn lane.

Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue have been one-way roads in downtown Peoria for more than 70 years, but the city is getting started on a $12 million project to revert to two-way traffic as a way to bring vibrancy back to the area.
