CHICAGO - A suburban Chicago businessman has been sentenced to two years in prison for concealing income to avoid paying more than $800,000 in taxes.
Federal prosecutors say 53-year-old Jordan Eckerling of Highland Park is the owner of Pagecomm of Illinois Inc., a cell phone distributorship.
As part of a plea deal, Eckerling admitted he concealed income by having the company issue him "business checks" that he used for personal expenses, including a housekeeper to clean his boat and his two homes.
He also charged a family vacation to Mexico to a company credit card and put his wife on the payroll to get health insurance in her name even though she didn't work there.
Eckerling was ordered to report to prison in September. Prosecutors say he's already paid $806,000 in tax obligations.
