Gov. Bruce Rauner is letting other states know that Illinois resources are available if needed in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and along the Gulf Coast.
Rauner said Monday that the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is monitoring requests for help through a national system that coordinates disaster assistance. Rauner says "Illinois stands ready to expedite assistance wherever needed." The governor says state agencies and other entities have been alerted in case they're called on to provide help.
Harvey made landfall Friday as a Category 4 hurricane and then lingered just off the coast as a drenching tropical storm. It sent devastating floods pouring into Houston Sunday. The rising waters have forced evacuations and overwhelmed rescuers who could not keep up with constant calls for help.
