The Miller Park Zoo in central Illinois is seeing increased attendance and revenue for the second year in a row.
The zoo welcomed more than 123,000 visitors in the fiscal year that ended April 30. That's up from about 114,300 visitors in the previous fiscal year. Gate revenue went up too. The Bloomington zoo made nearly $428,000 in gate revenue for the fiscal year that just ended compared with about $406,000 for the previous fiscal year.
Jay Tetzloff is superintendent of the zoo for the city of Bloomington. He says three baby snow leopards born last May and a flamingo exhibit were reasons for the increase. He also credited good weather.
Tetzloff says he's hoping the zoo will continue to see good numbers thanks to two baby otters born Feb. 25.
