Kennedy Says Property Tax System Is Root Of Problems

Facebook/Kennedy of Illinois

Illinois governor candidate Chris Kennedy says the state’s property tax system is rigged to benefit the politically powerful.  But the Democrat is not naming names. Kennedy says the property tax system is at the root of problems like gun violence and education funding.

He wants to rely more heavily on a progressive state income tax.  Kennedy also wants to stop County assessors from leading political parties, and he’d ban elected officials from being property tax lawyers.

Those rules would directly apply Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios and House Speaker Michael Madigan.  But Kennedy insists his plan isn’t about individuals, but rather a corrupt system.

Also running in the Democratic primary are Dan Biss, Ameya Pawar, JB Pritzker, and Bob Daiber.
