Ex-Illinois Troopers Gets Probation for Bribery, Misconduct

A former Illinois state trooper convicted of bribing a police officer to ticket his former girlfriend has been sentenced to probation.  Jurors in November found 47-year-old Keith Lumsargis guilty of two counts of bribery and two counts of official misconduct for offering a police officer a steak dinner for giving his ex-girlfriend a traffic ticket.

Lumsargis testified his actions were out of concern for the woman's teenage daughter, who might have been in the vehicle with her when she'd been drinking. But prosecutors contended he was trying to get back at her for breaking up with him.Vermilion County State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy asked the court for a four-year prison sentence.
