No Charges Against Chicago Police in Man's Death

Prosecutors won't charge Chicago police officers in connection with the in-custody death of a 24-year-old burglary suspect whose arrest was captured by dashcam video.  State's Attorney Anita Alvarez says prosecutors can't "prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers used excessive force" in arresting HeribertoGodinez in July 2015.

An independent medical examiner confirmed Godinez died of cardiac dysrhythmia brought on by cocaine and alcohol.  Godinez's sister has filed a federal lawsuit alleging police use of excessive force led to her brother's death.

In an unrelated case, 31-year-old Chicago officer Brent Kahn has been charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct for allegedly striking a man with a baton in 2014.
